Everyone talking about Florida's Future Power Rankings placement and what it means for the next two seasons needs to pump the brakes and look at something way more fundamental. The Gators ranked 112th nationally in turnover margin last season. You cannot build a winning program when you're giving the ball away that much and not taking it back. All the recruiting stars in the world don't fix a negative turnover differential that bleeds into field position every single week.
The special teams numbers were just as bad. Florida finished outside the top 80 in punt return average and gave up a blocked punt that directly cost them a game. Field goal percentage was below 75% which is basically a death sentence in close SEC games. You can have all the five-star skill players in the world but if you're losing the hidden yardage battle by 40 yards per game you're playing from behind before the offense even takes the field. The 2026 class is nice and the roster has talent but until the Gators fix the fundamentals of ball security and kicking game none of those Future Power Rankings projections mean anything. The SEC has too much parity now to survive that kind of self-inflicted damage.
