You Illinois folks always had selective memory. I remember when your program was grabbing recruits out of Texas with promises that never panned out, so don't act all sanctimonious now. A man's word? That went out the window when conferences started getting carved up and loyalty beacme a one-way street from player to school. We had kids give their word to UTEP under Coach Mike Price, only to have bigger programs come sniffing around after a breakout season. This is just the old game with new, uglier money. At least now it's above the table instead of the under-the-table deals we all knew were happening in the Southwest Conference days. Michigan just has a bigger bag, same as it ever was. The difference is, back then, a kid like that would have sat on the bench for three years at a powerhouse. Now he'll probably transfer out in two years if he doesn't start. The whole system is rotten, but don't pretend your program is some bastion of tradition. You're just mad you got outbid.
