Gets me fired up seenig these offseason rankings from ESPN? They talk about portal grades and recruiting hauls and I just think back to the old days at Camp Randall. I remember sitting in the bleachers back in 1982 when the place held maybe 77,000 and the concrete was so cold in November you could feel it through three layers of wool. We didnt have any of this fancy stuff. Just a student section that would shake the whole stadium when we got a stop on third down. The old wooden bleachers under the north end zone, the way the wind would whip off Lake Mendota, the smell of brats and beer mixing with the crisp autumn air. You could hear the pads popping from the cheap seats. That was real football. None of these modern renovations with their club seats and luxury boxes and video boards the size of a house. Give me the old Camp Randall where the visiting team knew they were in for a fight, not a field trip. I bet half those kids in the portal have never even sat in a cold metal bleacher for a game.
