Just saw that Arizona is doing their spring showcase at Casino Del Sol Stadium tonight and it got me thinking about our old home field memories. I remember when Amon G. Carter Stadium was still that old horseshoe with the track around it, before they modernized everything. You could feel every single tackle in those metal bleachers. The smell of popcorn and hot dogs mixing with the Texas evening air, that's what Saturday meant. We used to pack 45,000 in there and it sounded like 80,000 when we got a stop on third down. Now they've got the fancy video board and all the club seating and it's nice, I won't deny that. But something got lost when they took out those old bleachers and put in chairbacks. You can't manufacture that kind of atmosphere with architecture. It came from generations of families who parked their pickup trucks in the same spot for forty years.
