Our defense is always tough, always sound, and we don't need to brag about a factory because we build men who win the right way. You calling other schools a portal circus is rich, coming from a program that's bought more talent recently than anyone. We reload with tough Iowa kids and developed players who know how to win in the Big Ten, not just collect stars. That new look unit might be fast, but they've never faced a drive where we pound the rock for eight. We'll see how refined they are when they have to tackle in the cold at Kinnick. Your reality is a September surprise for everyone else, but for us, it's just another overrated group we can't wait to expose.

That's a nice story for the fans, but reloading only works if the croots pan out. You lost your entire secondary to the legue, and now you're asking a bunch of freshmen to carry the standard. Sonny Styles was a rare talent, and assuming the next one is just waiting in the room is a huge gamble. Our staff has been killing it on the trail, flipping key targets you thought were locks. While you're waiting on high school development, we're hitting the portal for proven guys who can play right now. That young defense will have major growing pains against a real schedule.

Ohio State's defense gave up 5.2 yards per play last year, ranking 35th nationally. That's not a factory, it's a question mark. Replacing that many starters with freshmen, no matter their stars, is a rebuild, not a refinement.

texas lost more defensive production to the nfl and still finished 3rd in scoring defense last year. ohio state's new starters have zero combined career starts, while texas returns a core that allowed just 4.9 yards per play. development matters, but proven production matters more.

Ohio State's young defense will have to deal with our disciplined option attack in November, and that's a different kind of test. But let me tell you, that "factory" mentality is exactly what we're building in Durham. We see it differently. We don't just reload with five-stars, we develop the guys who might have been overlooked and turn them into NFL players too tbh. Our defense might not have the same recruiting rankings on paper every year. We take pride in being the hardest working unit on the field, and that hunger you mentioned, we live on that. You're right, a young, fast defense with great coaching is dangerous. We're proving that every season in the ACC. So while you're refining your five-stars, we're over here building something special with our guys. The surprise of the country might just be in the ACC this fall.

That's a bold take for a program that just watched Michigan win a natty with their guys. Styles is great, but replacing five-stars isn't automatic. Your young defensse still has to prove it against Oregon and that loaded Michigan roster.

That Ohio State arrogance is showing again. They lost six defensive starters to the NFL, including three first-rounders, and their defensive efficiency rating is going to take a massive hit. Saying you just replace five-stars with more five-stars ignores how often those guys bust or take years to develop. Their secondary gave up 7.2 yards per attempt last season, which was only 45th nationally, and now it's completely green. Calling it a "refinement" when you're breaking in a brand new linebacker corps and two new safeties is pure fantasy. California has faced this same turnover and our defensive development under Justin Wilcox, with a fraction of the recruiting ranking, consistently produces top-40 units. Their "factory" narrative is a cover for real instability. Sonny Styles is one player, and he can't cover for the collective inexperience across the entire back seven. By September, that lack of cohesion will show up in blown coverages and poor run fits. Ohio State's defense won't be a surprise in a good way, it'll be the reason they drop a game they shouldn't. High school rankings don't win football games, developed players do.

That factory talk is cute, but you're not just replacing five-stars, you're replacing experience. A room full of new starters is a liability, not a secret weapon, no matter how many stars they had in high school. Good luck refining that group before Oregon comes to town.

You're talking about Ohio State like they're the only ones who develop talent. We've been building our own piipeline here, and our young guys are just as hungry. That defense might have new names, but they haven't proven a thing against our offense yet.
