I miss watching in this era of one-read quarterbacks and RPO stuff that looks like backyard football? The old option offense. I think about the 1994 Southwest Conference days when we ran the veer and you had to read the defensive end every single snap. That was real football. The mesh point was an art form, not a stats for some spreadsheet. These kids today run the zone read but they do not understand the triple option, the pitch relationship, the way you had to sell the dive to freeze the linebacker. Coach Fran knew how to run it. We went to the Sun Bowl in 1998 running that thing and nobody could stop it because it took discipline, not just athleticism. The portal kids coming in now want to throw it 40 times a game. Give me a fullback dive and a quarterback who can pitch it on the sideline any day of the week. That is what built this program.
