Calling it now Florida's QB room efficiency is going to be the most underdiscussed factor in whether this team takes a step forward or just spins its wheels in 2026. DJ Lagway leaving through the portal after a rough sophomore season opens the door completely but people are sleeping on what the actual numbers looked like. The Gators finished last season with a QBR that ranked outside the top 60 nationally and the completion percentage on throws beyond 10 yards was genuinely bad. That isnt all on the quarterback either because the protection numbers tell a different story.
The offensive line allowed pressure on over 35% of dropbacks last season and that directly cratered any downfield efficiency. Fix the protection and suddenly the QB efficiency jumps by default regardless of who wins the job this spring. The new starter has a clean pocket to work with and the scheme is built around quick reads and getting the ball out on time. That alone should push the passing efficiency into the top 40 range. The rushing attack averaged over 4.5 yards per carry last season so the play action game has a foundation to work from.
Mark my words this QB room finishes with a higher QBR than any Florida quarterback has posted since 2020. The pieces are there the pressure rate drops and the efficiency numbers follow.
