And now LSU thinks they can just waltz into the Big 12 and take our top recruit. That is the world we live in now. No loyalty, no handshake agreements, no nothing. I remember when a verbal commit meant something, when a kid would look a coach in the eye and give his word and that was that. Now it is just a placeholder until a bigger bag shows up from the SEC.
What kills me is that this is the same program that built dynasties on homegrown talent. We had guys who grew up wanting to be Horned Frogs, who bled purple from the time they could walk. We did not need to flip five stars from other schools because our pipeline was full of kids who actually cared about the program. The old Southwest Conference rivalries meant something because the kids playing in them had been watching those games since they were in diapers.
This whole system is broken. The portal killed the concept of building a program. Every year you are just hoping your best players do not get poached by some SEC school with a bigger NIL collective. I miss when June meant two-a-days and summer workouts, not watching our recruiting board get picked apart by every school with a checkbook.
