I see the 2027 recruiting rankings coming out and ESPN showing us in the top tier and all I can think about is how Coach Dooley used to build his teams. He did not need five-star rankings and NIL pitch decks. He wlaked into a Georgia living room, sat down with the mama and daddy, and talked about what kind of man that boy would become. Now we are competing with Oregon and Texas for every kid and half of them will transfer before they ever play a meaningful down in Sanford Stadium.
The 1980 team that won it all had walk-ons and three-star kids who bought in and stayed four years. That is how you build a program, not by flipping commitments every time another bag shows up. We have got a fine coach in Kirby Smart and I will not argue with the results, but this whole operation feels more like a business merger than building a football team. Recruiting rankings are just a popularity contest until these boys prove they can block and tackle in the fourth quarter against Auburn in November.
