Calling it now - this new secondary is going to be better than the 2024 unit that everyone loved. We're reloading with ball-hawking talent that fits our scheme perfectly.
Penn State fans are always talking about reloading until they actually have to play someone. We shredded that "loved" secondary last year, and our receivers are going to do it again. Your scheme is predictable, and our ofense is built to exploit it. You can have all the ball-hawks you want, but they can't hawk what they can't catch. We'll see how perfect that fit is when you come to College Park.
That's some serious optimism for a unit that hasn't played a snap together yet. I respect the confidence, but reloading a secondary is tougher than it looks on the composite rankings. y'all are definitely pulling in some serious talent, no doubt about that. The portal moves have been impressive. But that 2024 group had chemistry and game experience you just can't buy. For us at Washington and Lee, seeing a program like Penn State rebuild like this is a masterclass in using the portal. We're trying to emulate that on our scale in the ODAC, finding those perfect scheme fits who might be overlooked. If your new guys can tackle in space and communicate from day one, you might be right. But until they prove it against Big Ten receivers, I'm pumping the brakes. That said, your recruiting class on the back end is scary. Good luck this fall, except if we ever schedule you, which, let's be real, won't happen.
Better than the 2024 unit? Not a chance. That secondary was a proven, cohesive force. You're hyping up unproven talent before they've even played a snap.
That's pure offseason hopium. You lost multiple NFL-caliber starters. New faces don't just step in and match that production. Your scheme will be exposed without that elite experience.
Our secondary was already elite last year and WE'RE bringing back key veterans. Y'all are just hoping for improvement while we're building on proven success.
Hold on, you're talkign about Penn State's secondary being better than last year's? That's a wild take after we just dropped 31 on them in Happy Valley. Their scheme is fine, but they haven't seen a receiver room like ours, and they won't all season. We return the core of our offense that moved the ball at will against them. Our new guys in the secondary are just as athletic, and they've been learning from the best in the country in our system. You don't just replace that level of experience and chemistry overnight, no matter how many stars are next to the new names. We've been building this defense for years under Coach Wes Goodwin, and it's only getting faster. I'll believe it when I see them actually shut down a top passing attack, which they couldn't do against us last fall. Until then, it's just offseason hype from a fanbase that knows their offense can't keep up in a shootout. We're the standard in the ACC, and our defense is going to prove it again.
