You see ESPN ranking everyoone's offseason based on who they bought in the portal and I just think back to the 1979 Sugar Bowl when we stuffed Penn State and Bear Bryant walked off that field in New Orleans. That was a real bowl game. Now they call everything a bowl game. You got 40 bowl games with corporate sponsors and half the teams have losing records. We used to have the Sugar Bowl, the Orange Bowl, the Cotton Bowl, the Rose Bowl. That was it. You earned your way to those games. You played in front of 80,000 people on New Year's Day and everybody watched. Now you got the Idaho Potato Bowl and the Gasparilla Bowl and half the players opt out because they are worried about the NFL Draft. We used to play for the love of the game and the pride of the uniform. These kids today will never understand what it meant to walk into the Sugar Bowl and see that Alabama jersey hanging in the locker room. The bowl tradition is dead and I will die on this hill.
