Just saw that CBS Sports piece about Jeremiah Smith and the 2027 first round projections. All those Buckeyes and nobody talking about what spring practice used to mean back in the 90s when you had to earn your snaps in front of 300 people at Camp Randall in the cold April rain. Now it's all about who transfers in next week.
Watching Notre Dame schedule our fall game got me thinking about 1993 when we went into South Bend and nearly pulled it off. That defense under Coach Alvarez would have loved getting a shot at these modern spread offenses. The rivalry meant something then. You played for the old trophy, not for a check.
Now it's just another game on the schedule. The portal gutted what made these matchups special.
