You watch ESPN rank those top 10 receivers for 2026 and you see Ohio State at number one, Miami, Texas, all these pograms getting the hype, and our guys barely get mentioned. Coach Bryant would have looked at that list and crumpled it up in the locker room because he knew you win games in the trenches, not on a highlight reel. We used to have receivers that blocked their tails off on every snap, not just ran go routes and collected NIL money. I think back to the 1992 squad when we won it all and our passing game was efficient but nothing flashy, we beat people down with the running game and defense. This new era where you need a top 5 receiver just to compete for a playoff spot makes me sick because the portal has turned roster building into a free agency free-for-all. If we want to get back to the top of the SEC we need to rebuild our offensive line the way Coach Stallings used to do it, with tough country kids that stay for four years and know what it means to wear the A. This spring I am watching the line work with all these portal transfers and I just do not know if they understand the standard that was set in the 70s and 80s. Give me a bunch of three stars that will run through a wall for the team instead of five stars that are already looking at the draft. We win in the fall because of toughness, not because of some preseason hype list.
