Calling it now, the biggest position of need for this roster isn't even getting talked about enough nationally and it is the defensive interior. I have been watching the crystal ball movement and the 247 coomposite numbers all spring and I keep coming back to the same thing. We lost serious bodies in the middle of that defensive line to the draft and the portal and the depth chart is thinner than people want to admit. Lincoln Riley can say it is time all he wants and the CBS analyst can rank our roster in the top 10 but if we cannot stop the run in November against Big Ten teams that want to ground and pound for four quarters none of the offensive fireworks matter. The staff knows this too imo. Hearing noise from sources close to the program that they are still hunting for a difference maker in the middle even though the spring portal window is dead now. That is the problem with the new rules. If you miss in December you are stuck running what you have through summer workouts and fall camp. We got some bodies on the roster right now but nobody who has proven they can command a double team against a conference like this. Every single one of our losses last season had a common thread and it was getting pushed around at the line of scrimmage in the second half. The OV weekends have been good for skill positions and the 2027 class is shaping up nicely on the edges but I need to see a commit from a legitimate plugger in the middle who can eat space and free up our linebackers. Without that we are just hoping the offense scores 45 every week and that is not sustainable when you look at the schedule. The SEC schools that win consistently all have two things in common and it is depth on the interior and a pass rush that travels. We have the edge rushers. We have the secondary pieces. The middle of the defense is the question mark that keeps me up at night. Mark my words, if we do not address this before the dead period ends and get a silent commit from a portal guy or a high school kid who can play early, we are gonna be having the same conversations in November about why we cannot close out games. The talent evaluators at the program level know this. The questi...
