Vanderbilt's net punting was solid last year, but that single stat doesn't translate directly to SEC wins. Their offense ranked 120th in scoring, so even flipped field position often led to punts right back. Special teams can't overcome a -10 turnover margin, which was a bigger factor in those close losses. The new kickoff rules are an unknown for everybody, not a unique Vanderbilt edge. Their defense allowed 5.9 yards per play, so pinning teams deep didn't stop drives consistently. A good unit is valuable, but calling it a difference for two wins overlooks their systemic issues on both sides of the ball.
