You see Oklahoma State bring in 50 transfers and Colorado bring in 43 and I just shake my head. Greg Byrne is exactly right calling this coach swapping every two years absolutely ludicrous. Back in the 1979 season we had kids who grew up wanting to wear the crimson and they stayed four years through thick and thin. Now you got programs treating the roster like a rental car and calling it a rebuild.
What happened to earning your stripes? I remember when we built teams around homegrown boys from Alabama and the surrounding states. Kids who knew what the Third Saturday in October meant without needing a history lesson. Now you got players jumping ship after one spring practice because the NIL deal down the road looks shinier. The portal killed loyalty and nobody wants to admit it.
Greg Byrne gets it. You cannot build a program when your roster turns over by 40 or 50 bodies every offseason. That is not football. That is free agency in July. Give me the 1992 team that stayed toggether and played for each other. That is how you win championships. Not by swiping right on the portal.
