Every successful program at our level uses the portal to address immediate needs, and acting like it's some kind of moral failing is just naive. The data shows the teams that blend high school development with strategic portal additions are the ones competing for conference titles. Look at last year's standings. The top teams in the SIAC all had key transfer contributors. To say they're "renting players" ignores that these are students who have graduated and are pursuing further opportunities, which is the entire point of college athletics.
