ESPN ranking our offseason and grading the portal haul and I just shake my head. You remember when we built teams the old way? Coach Bryant would roll over in his grave seeing us shop for offensive linemen like we are at a flea market. Kane Wommack can say whatever he wants about what we accomplished in the portal but I saw what happened to the 1994 team when we tried to patch holes with transfers instead of developing the guys we had. That team finished 8-3 and lost to Florida in the SEC Championship because we never had that bond you only get from grinding together in August two-a-days. Now we got kids coming in for one spring and leaving the second they get a better offer down the road. NIL turned loyalty into a transaction and the portal made every roster a rental car. We will see what this team is made of when the heat turns up in November not when the check clears in May.
