Nobody running the option anymore and it makes me sick. I watch these offenses now and it is all RPO this and spread that, quarterbacks standing in the pocket like statues waiting for somebody to get open. You ever watch a TCU game from the late 90s? We had a fullback lead blocking and a quarterback who could read the defensive end and pull the ball at the last second. That was football. That was the game I fell in love with.
You see Texas Tech getting all this hype in the ESPN preview and I guarantee you their offense is not running a single option play all season. Kansas State is the closest thing we have left in this league and even they have gone soft compared to what Bill Snyder was doing in the 2000s. The triple option was dying a slow death and the portal finished it off because nobody wants to learn how to pitch the football anymore. They just want to throw it 50 times a game and collect NIL money.
I would give anything to see us line up in the I formation one more time and run midline option until the defense quits. You cannot tell me that would not work in the Big 12 right now. Nobody knows how to tackle a fullback anymore. Nobody has practiced scraping down the line of scrimmage against a quarterback who is actually a threat to keep it. The game got soft and I miss the old days.
