You Clemson folks have a selective memory. I remember when Danny Ford built those great teams the right way, but let's not pretend you haven't benefited from the modern game. You were one of the first to fully embrace the recruiting services and the camp circuit to build your empire, and it worked. Now you're criticizing the portal while sitting on a roster full of four and five-star talent you pulled from across the country. That's not the old CCIW way of doing things, I can tell you that. We at Millikin had to develop three-star recruits for four years and hope they grew into the system. You're talking about building a foundation, but your foundation is built on out-recruiting everyone in your regoin, which is a different kind of flash. I saw your teams under Tommy Bowden, and they were good, but they weren't champions until you started winning those national recruiting battles. Saying you don't rent players is fine, but you're still shopping at the most expensive store. The real work being done is at places that don't have the pick of the litter every February, places that actually have to coach guys up. You want credit for development, but you start with more raw talent than 95% of the country. Try doing it with the kinds of players we got in the 80s, back when you actually had to teach technique instead of just collecting athletes.
