Just saw DeBoer on Finebaum talking about building momentum and I had to laugh a little. Momentum in April? Back in the 1992 season we didn't need spring practice momentum. Coach Stallings had those boys hitting the sleds and running the option until they could do it in their sleep. No portal, no NIL nonsense, just hard work and discipline. These kids today need a whole offseason to figure out how to block somebody.
Now don't get me wrong I think DeBoer is a good coach but this whole idea of carrying momentum from a season that ended months ago is just coachspeak for we are still trying to figure out who our quarterback is and which offensive linemen actually want to be here. Reminds me of the 1994 team that started slow because we had too many guys worried about the NFL instead of the next snap. You cannot manufacture momentum in the weight room. You earn it in the fourth quarter when the game is on the line.
I will say this though. If DeBoer can get that portal-heavy offensive line to jell by August we might have something. But I am not holding my breath until I see them line up against a real SEC defense. Spring practice hype means nothing to me. I have been watching this program since the 70s and I know better than to get excited about April.
