I keep seeing people compare our current roster to the 1993 team that took the field against Michigan and I. That 1993 team was tough and gritty and played smashmouth football the way college football was meant to be played. But the game has changed and we have changed with it while keeping the same identity that made us great in the first place. The 1993 team did not have this kind of talent pipeline. They did not have a coaching staff that knows how to develop five-star recruits into first-round draft picks while simultaneously winning national championships. That is the difference between then and now. Calling it now this 2026 Georgia team will have more NFL draft picks than any team in program history including those legendary 90s squads. They laid the foundation absolutely and we respect what they built. But we are standing on their shoulders not trying to recreate what they did. The 1993 team won with grit and determination and heart. This team wins with elite talent AND grit AND determination AND heart. We have both now. We used to have to choose. People romanticize the past and I get it. I remember watching Herschel run over defenses and thinking football would never get better than that. But the reality is our program right now in 2026 is deeper across the board than any stretch in school history. The 1993 team had maybe 8 or 9 guys who could play on Sundays. This roster has 15 plus guys who will hear their name called in the NFL draft. The game has evolved and we evolved with it while our rivals stayed stuck in the past trying to figure out NIL and the portal. Our 2027 recruiting class is sitting at No. 3 in the country and people want to act like that is a disappointment. We landed a five-star tight end to go with an already loaded 2026 class. The program is not slowing down. The historical comparisons to the 90s teams are cute for nostalgia but this era of Georgia football is the peak. We are the st...
