You see Texas A&M sitting at number 5 in some power ranking and I just shake my head. Back in the 1992 season when we went to the first SEC Championship Game against Florida, you earned your ranking by winning on the field not by looking good on paper in April. These preseason lists are just filler content for the offseason. I remember when the only rankngs that mattered came out in October after you had played some real football.
Greg Sankey keeps telling us a super league isnt happening and maybe he is telling the truth. But I have been watching this conference since the 1980s when we had the old SEC lineup with Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee and us every single year. Now we have Texas and Oklahoma and who knows who else coming. The tradition of playing those familiar teams every fall is gone. You used to know exactly when we played Tennessee, the third Saturday in October. Now the schedule changes every year based on TV money.
I just want to go back to the days when bowl games meant something and you stayed in one place for four years. This whole ranking and conference shuffle nonsense is making me miss the simpler times.
