Saw ESPN's Future Power Rankings and I just sat there wondering what happened to the way we used to build a program. Back in the late 80s under Don Morton, then Barry coming in and grinding it out with Wisconsin kids and Midwest transfers who actually wanted to be here for four years, that's how you built something that lasted. Now we are supposed to be excited about whatever the portal brings in this summer while watching our own homegrown talent walk out the door. The 1993 team that went to the Rose Bowl had maybe three guys who were highly recruited and the rest were overlooked kids from small towns who developed over time. You cannot tell me that throwing together a roster from the clearance rack every spring is the same thing. It just is not.
